Sky trade Angel Reese in stunning move before WNBA season begins: reports

Chicago Sky trade Angel Reese to Atlanta Dream

Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese was traded to the Atlanta Dream on Monday as WNBA free agency opened. The Sky will receive first-round draft picks in 2027 and 2028, according to multiple reports. Prime Video NBA broadcaster Taylor Rooks first reported the deal.

The transaction marks one of the first major moves after the WNBA and its players' union reached a verbal agreement on a new collective bargaining agreement. The Sky selected Reese seventh overall in the 2024 draft out of LSU, where she won a national championship. Chicago has missed the playoffs in each of her two seasons there.

Reese averaged 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds in 34 games as a rookie in 2024, earning All-Star honors, a runner-up finish in Rookie of the Year voting and an MVP vote. She played 30 games in her second season, averaging 14.7 points and 12.6 rebounds despite missing time. The Sky have had two coaches during her tenure and will enter next season with a third.

Atlanta posted the WNBA's best record last season at 30-14 but lost in the first round of the playoffs to the Indiana Fever. The Dream face free agency decisions on players including Allisha Gray, Brittney Griner, Jordin Canada and Brionna Jones, while Rhyne Howard enters restricted free agency.
