Minnesota Vikings add Carson Wentz to quarterback room after Kyler Murray signing
The Minnesota Vikings have signed veteran quarterback Carson Wentz to a one-year contract, according to a Fox News Digital report, following the addition of Kyler Murray on a similar deal last week.[1]
The moves provide depth and competition behind J.J. McCarthy, the Vikings' quarterback drafted 10th overall in the 2024 NFL Draft.[2]
McCarthy missed his entire rookie season in 2024 after suffering a torn meniscus in the preseason.[3]
Carson Wentz, 32, is a former second overall pick by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2016. He has started 94 games over his career with the Eagles, Indianapolis Colts, Washington Commanders and Los Angeles Rams.[4]
In 2023, his most recent season, Wentz appeared in two games for the Rams, completing 70 of 117 passes for 714 yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions.[4]
Kyler Murray, 27, won the Heisman Trophy in 2018 and was selected first overall by the Arizona Cardinals in 2019. He has started 77 games in his career.[5]
Murray has dealt with injuries, including limited play in recent seasons: 11 games in 2022, eight in 2023.[5]
