Scottish golfer Robert MacIntyre flashes lewd gesture at Masters
MacIntyre raises middle finger in Masters frustration
Scottish golfer Robert MacIntyre raised his middle finger in frustration after hitting his approach shot into the water on the par-5 15th hole during the second round of the 2026 Masters at Augusta National. The Scotsman reported Friday that an official reprimanded him for the obscene gesture. MacIntyre, 27, then took a penalty drop, hit another shot into the pond, dropped again and blasted over the green, carding a quadruple-bogey nine.
The incident occurred amid a difficult round for MacIntyre, who also slammed his club into the ground on the 17th after a poor second shot and was heard cursing on the 12th and 13th holes. Augusta National enforces strict standards of decorum during the tournament, steeped in tradition. MacIntyre declined to speak with reporters afterward.
Entering the event, MacIntyre carried momentum from strong performances at The Players Championship and the Texas Open. He opened on April 10, 2026, at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia.
MacIntyre's outburst highlighted a challenging day that left his chances of making the cut slim in the season's first major.
