Former Nebraska women's basketball coach admits sexual relationship with ex-player, lawsuit claims
Ex-Nebraska coach admits sex with former player
Chuck Love, former associate head coach of the Nebraska women's basketball team, admitted in a February deposition to having a sexual relationship with ex-player Ashley Scoggin before her dismissal from the team in 2022. Love initially denied the relationship. The admission appears in court documents tied to Scoggin's 2024 civil lawsuit against Love and university officials.
Scoggin filed the suit accusing Love, head coach Amy Williams, former athletic director Trev Alberts and the university's Board of Regents of failing to implement safeguards against staff-student-athlete sexual relationships. She alleged Love took a special interest in her, leading to a sexual relationship she feared could prompt retaliation if refused. Teammates found Scoggin, fully clothed, in Love's room during a road trip, prompting her dismissal days later on the same day Love received a paid suspension in February 2022.
Love resigned three months later. Scoggin, who played two seasons for the Cornhuskers after hailing from Dallas, Oregon, transferred to UNLV. Williams and Alberts stated in their joint response that they lacked sufficient information to confirm or deny the relationship allegations.
The university justified Scoggin's removal citing dishonesty and distrust with teammates. A March 17 court filing noted Love's admission on February 5 after his prior denials of seeking sexual relationships, discussing inappropriate topics or inviting her for drinks with students.
